In a September 2016 Recycling Today article "electronics recyclers that wouldn't have looked at reuse as an option in the past now are considering it as another revenue source."

"When commodity prices were higher, devices that could have been reused frequently were shredded to recycle the valuable materials they contained... because recyclers could get more money from the separated commodities than for the whole device on the reuse market." One recycler said, "We are entering a new circular economy where reuse is preferable over disposal," and "reuse always should be the preferred method for handling electronics."
