Phone Books

Local governments are increasingly recognizing that phone books are a voluminous waste. The following resources and videos are specific to phone book product stewardship and recycling.


King County and Seattle residents can opt-out of unsolicited mail and phone book delivery through Catalog Choice.

The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) is working to reduce unwanted phone books and increase their recycling. PSI has information on phone book action in communities in California, Massachusetts, Illinois, Missouri, Washington, Oregon, and New York, as well as an infographic on how many phone books go to waste (PDF).
