Connecticut Mattress Stewardship Bill (SB 89)

Status:
Failed
Type:
Bill
Date:
February, 2012

SB-89an act establishing a mattress stewardship program, was the culmination of a year-long dialog facilitated by the Product Stewardship Institute with state and local governments, businesses, environmental organizations, and the mattress industry.

Despite gaining more than 40 co-sponsors, overwhelmingly supportive testimony in the Feb. 22, 2012 Environment Committee hearing, and passing the Connecticut Senate on May 2, the Connecticut House failed to pass SB-89 before the May 9 session adjournment. The bill was expected to save local governments money (PDF) and increase the collection and recycling of mattresses.
